History

"In response to a sudden marketing needs requirement, LORD changed gears; built up rapidly to a 600 plus labor force, adhered to very stringent quality requirements, met all interim schedule needs, demonstrated great purchasing abilities and field management techniques, which in a safe manner enabled us to execute, as construction managers, a successful completion of the largest, most complex and intensive project built in Puerto Rico over the last 20 years."

Frederic W. Lord, a student from M.I.T. and a visionary in the electrical engineering field, founded LORD ELECTRIC COMPANY in 1895, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was quick to envision the changes America would encounter as electricity became a major force in the industry and he was determined to stand at the forefront of these advances in order to bring a better future for the society.

By 1959 the company had expanded its operations to participate in the rapid development of the Caribbean, focusing first on electrical contracting island wide and later, at other nearby Caribbean Islands.  In 1972, a Mechanical and Plumbing Division were added to meet the increasing needs of a flourishing Pharmaceutical Industry and an accelerated development in Infrastructure and of Industrial and Commercial Projects on the island.

In 1979, ownership of the Puerto Rico subsidiary was transferred to a group of local entrepreneurs. With that, a new vision was adopted and Lord expanded its operations into every new market that presented an opportunity for growth. A well planned transition began in 1995, which passed on leadership to the current group of Directors, who also acquired ownership of Lord stocks in 2005.

Lord has a well-established record of quality work during its 50 years of existence in Puerto Rico, in almost every market of the construction industry: commercial, industrial, institutional, state and federal government buildings, pharmaceutical process and biochemicals, communications, power lines, transportation infrastructure, power generating plants, renewable energy, petroleum product terminals, water filtration and processing plants.

Today, Lord Electric Company of Puerto Rico, Inc., a corporation owned by its own officers and key employees, continues with the tradition of combining quality, safety and customer satisfaction as the most important principles guiding the way of doing business.
