Mobile Emergency Power Units Deployed

Posted on Jan 15, 2020

On December 28, 2019, January 7 and 11, 2020, with less than a couple of weeks between, residents of Puerto Rico were jolted awake by earthquakes of 5.2, 6.4, 6.0 magnitudes respectively that have caused significant damages to the power and built infrastructure. In this time over 2,000 tremmors have been registered. Thousands of residents of the Southern part of the Island gathered in earthquake refugee camps looking for safety and access to water and electricity. In response to demands for electricity and clean water in communities affected seismic activity, LORD and WorldWater & Solar Technologies teamed up again to deliver integrated, off-gird, mobile solar platforms that provide both water and power.

The team-up was a repeat collaboration that followed on the steps of Hurricane María emergency response efforts, when WorldWater & Solar Technologies has sent...

Emergency Response: On Call and Ready

Posted on Nov 30, 2019

LORD was selected to be among the few Puerto Rico electrical contractors that the Puerto Rico Electical Power Authority (PREPA) has pre-certified for electrical emergency response. This new certification procedure is expected to shorten the lead up time for engagement after a natural disaster.

After every mayor hurricane, natural disaster, and unexpected accident LORD has been there to work alongside PREPA, corporations and the government entities to reestablish electrical service. Our established emergency response plan has been a key asset that enables us to be ready to coordinate efforts in early hours after any event. We have the equipment, the redundancy in communications, the resources, experience and expertise to respond quickly and safely.

When disaster strikes, rely on LORD's seasoned high voltage experts to restore power and introduce resilience with...

Renewing Efforts to Build a Diversified Electrical Grid

Posted on Jun 27, 2018

After working alongside the Puerto Rico Power Authority and Fluor Caribbean to make sure Puerto Rico's electrical power grid was fully restored, Lord Electric was again at the forefront of post-María renewable energy power generation plans for the Island. Lord's progression in the electric business has always coexisted with the worldwide evolution and developments in this field. Our investment in ongoing training of our human resources allows us to provide experts in the field throughout the design to build value chain. From pre-construction consulting services and construction feasibility analysis to the actual construction of Power Substations, Overhead/Underground High Voltage Lines, Communication and Control Systems, Security Systems, Prefabrication Services and the capability to successfully complete complex projects with time constraints, Lord Electric is ready to lead the way...

Restoring and Rebuilding after Hurricane María

LORD - FLUOR - USACE PREPA Recovery Project - RS Electric

For months after Hurricane María we were there ready to lead. Crews came from around the nation. Their mission was to help restore Puerto Rico's electrical grid as quickly as possible. Lord Electric was there, putting their history and expertise into action, helping with logistics. Over hillsides, through landslides, carefully maneuvering between natural and fabricated debris, LORD had already been there before after Hurricanes Georges (1998) and Hugo (1990). As a trusted contractor of the Puerto Rico Power Authority (PREPA), LORD also new the history and limitations of the electrical grid. With all the expert hands working together it took nearly 10 months to bring the grid back to 98% operation. We share a video with images of our time working from dawn til dusk to bring power and light back to Puerto Rico.

Preparing for Emergency Hurricane Response

Readiness, like quality, are attributes that cannot be bought nor stumbled upon by accident. They require foresight, planning and dedication. Since its establishment in Puerto Rico in 1959, Lord Electric has been there to face build and rebuild after several natural disasters. In 2018, between Hurricane Irma and María we took stock of our readiness and made sure we could be up and working to address the emergency needs of Puerto Rico within 24 hours of a Category 5 storm.

Putting Innovation to the Test

At LORD Construction we are always on the look out for new dimensions in planning. Engineers at heart, we want to make sure the tools of the trade work as advertised: 2D, 3D 4D, 5D, every innovation is put to the test. We have been there on the frontlines of technology adoption and seen Computer Aided Design, computer assisted logistics and more recently integrated generations of Building Information Modeling services. Recently, we took the opportunity to record one such live-test of the benefits of LORD's design to build services.
